Antidepressants are notoriously difficult to stop. I assist people in coming off of these medications when they are ready to do so. Since people have often times been on this class of medications for years, it takes longer than expected to safely come off of the medication. I find that the best way to mitigate symptoms from withdrawal/discontinuation of these medications is by going slow. Often times the use of a compounding pharmacy is required to do such as slow taper. Symptoms from antidepressant withdrawal can have overlap with symptoms associated with depression so close monitoring is essential in the process. Lifestyle intervention, as well as supplement and nutritional support can be very helpful in the medication taper process.
